Guide Dog Project
This project is for member’s ages 8-18 years old. This project is has specific requirements and regulations that need to be met before a member can enroll in this project. You will need to check with your Extension office to make sure that this project is available in your county. Youth/families must submit an application to participate in this program and commit to a number of agreements to successfully raise a guide dog puppy. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Learn proper care, handling and behavior training of a working dog
- Accept responsibilities of dog ownership in your home and community
- Provide socialization experiences for the guide dog puppy.
- Learn how a person who is blind encounters challenges
- Feeding and caring of guide dog puppy
- Basic obedience training
- Participate in training/fun days
