4-H Leadership Project
Are you ready to step up to leadership? This project will bring out the best in you. You will learn about what it takes to be a really good leader. But you will also learn about yourself and what you can do if you put your hands, heart, head and health to work.
Step 3: Select Your Project
Unit 1 Individual Skills for Younger Members
This unit is for member’s ages 8-10 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Explore leadership skill areas
- Participate in at least two project learning experiences
- Participate in at least two citizenship activities
- Leadership report
Unit 2 Individual Skills for Older Members
This unit is for member ages 11-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Explore and master leadership skill areas
- Complete one activity in each leadership skill area
- Complete three activities in one area explored in more depth
- Assess and expand personal leadership skills with Assessment Guide
- Leadership report
Unit 3 Skills Working Within Groups
This unit is for member ages 11-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Explore seven leadership skill areas
- Plan learning activities
- Participate in practical application of skills
- Plan and participate in at least three citizenship activities
- Leadership report
Unit 4 Skills Leading Groups
This unit is for member’s ages 11-18 years old. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Explore leadership in seven skill areas
- Plan learning activities
- Plan and conduct one practical leadership experience
- Plan three citizenship activities
- Leadership report

Colorado State Fair and Local County Fair Exhibit Requirements
All Units:
All exhibits will consist of the following:
- Completed e-record and project manual and/or attached materials presented in a sturdy binder/notebook. These materials should include:
a) Select one of the seven leadership skills to develop or improve.
b) Focus on developing/improving (one) skill area in your leadership skills. - A display board telling how you developed or improved the one leadership skill. The standardized display board size is 4' x 3' with sides that do not overlap, is to be used for 4-H projects.
