4-H Bicycle Project

This project is designed to help young people learn bicycle care, maintenance, safety, and related community issues and develops life skills.

Step 3: Select Your Project

Unit 1 Bicycling For Fun

This unit is designed for member ages 8-18 years with little or no prior experience.
Members may stay in this unit for two years. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:

  • Protect your noggin!
  • Bicycle ABC’s
  • Driving your bike!
  • Sign language
  • Scan and signal!
  • Stop, look and listen
  • Is the coast clear!
  • Be road-smart!

Unit 2 Wheels In Motion

This unit is designed for member ages 8-18 that have some experience with a bicycle. Members may stay in this unit for two years. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:

  • Buying a bike
  • Anatomy of a bike
  • Pressure checkup
  • Find your groove
  • Chain reunion
  • Taking turns
  • Traffic manners
  • Shifting gears

Unit 3 Intermediate/Senior Self-Determined

This unit is designed for member ages 11-18 who understand basic bicycle care, maintenance, and safety. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:

  • Consumer power
  • Tire repair
  • Chain overhaul
  • Adjusting and replacing brake cables
  • Emergency turn
  • Career cyclist
  • Bike issues

Colorado State Fair and Local County Fair Exhibit Requirements:

General Exhibit Requirements:

All exhibits will consist of the following:

  1. Completed project manual and e-record presented in a sturdy binder/notebook.
  2. A display board illustrating a topic investigated during the project year. The standardized display board size is 4' x 3' with sides that do not overlap, is to be used for 4-H projects.
