This project is for member’s ages 8-18. In this project, you will learn about refinishing and refurbishing furniture. You’ll learn about caning seats and basic upholstery techniques. Members will accomplish the following learning experiences:
- Apply elements and principles of design to refinishing and refurbishing furniture
- Learn to evaluate personal situations and make decisions
- Recognize workforce preparation skills

Project Exhibit Rules for All Units
Project Exhibit Rules:
- Only the current year’s records should be submitted.
- The articles may be used before exhibiting but should be clean and in good condition when exhibited.
- All exhibit items must have the name, age, and county of the exhibitor attached. This information should be attached on the back and at the left-hand corner of the article.
Home Environment Unit 6
Exhibit will consist of the following:
- Completed e-Record presented in a sturdy binder/notebook, including a brief description of the room scheme and how your refinished or refurbished piece fits into the scheme;. Include in your project story why you chose your exhibit, how you plan to use it, what other items you made and what recycled or reusable items you used this year.
- A refinished or refurbished piece of furniture. Refurbishing means restoring a furniture piece to a new look by repairing damage and/or replacing seating or upholstery caused by heavy wear or neglect.
- Include the following information on the specific project information page in the e-Record:
a. Provide pictures showing the original piece, one during the refinishing or refurbishing and one of the completed piece.
