4-H Salute to Excellence Application Available
You may recall seeing information about this award in your mailing from National 4-H Council. To date, we have not received any nominations for this award.
Volunteers are, undeniably, the "heart and soul" of 4-H, and in an age when time is at a premium, 4-H Salute to Excellence serves as an opportunity to acknowledge our 4-H volunteers' unwavering dedication to the 4-H Youth Development movement.
Each year, state 4-H programs are invited to nominate two outstanding individual volunteers, one in each of two categories. The Lifetime Volunteer Award is given to an individual who has spent 10 or more years volunteering for 4-H. The Volunteer of the Year Award is given to an individual who has volunteered for 4-H less than 10 years. Recipients of the 4-H Salute to Excellence Volunteer Recognition Awards are chosen from nominees submitted by the State 4-H office.
In 2007, regional honorees will be selected. Each region will have its own Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer and Volunteer of the Year. The eight regional winners become nominees for the national award, and one volunteer from each category will be named the national winner.
Recipients will be presented with a monetary award (to be donated to a local 4-H program of the recipient's choosing). National awardees will also have their name engraved on the Salute to Excellence Perpetual Plaque located at the National 4-H Conference Center.
If you have someone worthy of being nominated please fill out the attached form and return it to Ellen Butler by March 30 so we have time to evaluate them and forward a state nominee by April 6! — Dale Leidheiser

Chaperon for Citizenship-Washington Focus
We’re in need of additional chaperons for CWF this summer. This experience is the highlight of many 4-H’ers careers and is an outstanding educational trip. It includes a great deal of Washington, D.C. sightseeing, a powerful citizenship program, and visits to congressional offices. This year delegates will experience the Fourth of July on the Smithsonian Mall – a remarkable visual and musical extravaganza. We’re looking for adults with energy and skills to work with a wonderful group of teens. You can find the application at http://www.colorado4h.org/events_opportunities/adult_chaperone.shtml.

Laminated Posters
We have printed large laminated posters (3’ x 3’ and 3’ x 4’) of the Targeting Life Skills Model, Experiential Learning Model and Essential Elements for each region. The Southern Region has already been using theirs in volunteer training programs. Routt County has a large plotting printer available and Karen Massey has used the graphics files to print their own posters. Posters for the Western and Northern Regions are ready to be checked out! Have someone from your region give me or Ellen a call and we’ll coordinate efforts to get them to you. Please note each region is expected to keep track of their posters. Thanks!
