Murdoch’s 4-H Discount Cards Available

Each year Murdoch’s provides Colorado 4-H members a 10% discount card for purchases made at any of their stores. To receive a card the members needs to go to the service desk and give them the name of their 4-H Club. Members who had 2006 cards need to exchange them for a new one. This program is open to all Colorado 4-H members. They do not need to have a Murdochs store in their county to participate.

County Extension office’s that have stores in their county or might have members going to a neighboring county need to e-mail a club list (just club names) to Megan at Murdochs: mmcglothlen@murdochs.com. Please contact the Colorado 4-H Foundation at 970.491.1537 if you have any questions.

National Parents Poll on Media and Kids Health

Common Sense Media http://www.commonsensemedia.org/news/press-releases.php?id=48 reports US parents' concerns about their youth's use of media (defined as TV, video games, iPods, Internet, radio, etc.). Almost all kids use media at least once a week, with most using some form of media everyday. Two thirds of the respondents (68%) said they think media influences the health and well-being of their kids, but few parents (13%) said they understand specifically how media's influence worked. — Jan Carroll

2007 CSU Youth Beef Judging, Fitting and Showing Camp

Save the Date! June 24 - 27, 2007

This camp is an exclusive opportunity for 4-Hers to have hands-on fitting and showing training, an opportunity to increase judging skills and gain a greater knowledge of beef evaluation and performance reasons. Not only will attendees become familiar with Colorado State University’s campus, but they will also have an opportunity to have personal contact with CSU students and faculty. Attendees will be asked to put their new knowledge to work in the judging contest and show their parents what they have learned in the final show. Students will have mentors helping and training them at a fun, entertaining and educational camp. All levels of experience are encouraged to attend. You will not have to provide your own equipment or bring your own animal. Camp cost is $250, which includes nine meals, room and board for three nights, educational materials and much more. Due to limited availability (35 attendees), the selection criteria will be based upon the date the application is received. Half the camp will be novice and half experienced, with an even range of age. Application deadline is April 15. Once all applications have been received the CSU Livestock Judging Team and selection committee will select students to participate in the camp. Students will be notified by phone and a registration packet will be mailed by May 1, 2007. Questions should be directed to Lucy Whitehead, 970.491.3969 or lucy.whitehead@colostate.edu. — Ellen Butler
