January 2007 Mission of the Month: Digital Media Show and Tell
From 4-H clubs to summer camps to athletic teams, every youth program has something that makes it special. While one group is painting a mural or designing a fair exhibit, another group is planting trees or building a Web site. Some youth keep returning to their program to see their friends, to learn new skills, to explore nature or all of the above. What about YOU?
During CYFERnet's Digital Media Show-and-Tell contest, you can let the world know what makes your 4-H program special. Your mission is to use digital photography, audio, video or a mix of digital media to answer the question, "Why am I here?" In other words, what do you enjoy most about your program and what benefits keep you coming back for more?
Work independently or as a team to show off your art, communication, and technology skills while telling your story. CYFERnet will post submissions online for the public to enjoy. Our panel of judges will announce and recognize the winners at the May 2007 CYFAR conference.
Visit http://www.cyfernet.org/4htech/missions.html for complete details.

4-H Scholar Selected
Lacey Hood from Fowler, Colorado is this years freshman 4-H Scholar. Lacey was recently selected from an impressive pool of applicants.
Lacey participated in 4-H for ten years while growing up outside Fowler on a meat goat ranch. During her 4-H years, Lacey expanded her knowledge of animals and the livestock industry and gained experience in life-skills through hard work, determination, dedication and responsibility. If you ask her, she’ll tell you she’s loved every minute of her 4-H involvement. 4-H also contributed to her choice of a dual major in Animal Science and Anthropology at Colorado State University. When she completes her degree, Lacey hopes to pursue a career in archeology or animal genetics (primarily in the beef industry). She isn’t locked into a career path but would like to continue to make 4-H and agriculture an integral part of her life.
4-H Scholars promote the positive experiences they had in 4-H and spend up to 20 hours a month representing 4-H at key activities, speaking at public events and meeting with stakeholders and donors. For their efforts each Scholar receives training, public relations support materials, reimbursement for expenses, and a $1,500 annual stipend toward college expenses. The person selected is eligible to continue to serve as a Scholar throughout their college career - advancing to each grade level - as long as their grades and activity commitments are met.
The Colorado 4-H Youth Development Program and 4-H Foundation greatly appreciate the Colorado Farm Bureau’s continued support of the 4-H Scholars program. — Gary Small
Engaging Antarctica
Science, Engineering and Technology (SET): Here is an opportunity for individual 4-H groups to be funded for their interest in Antarctic research on climate change.

- Spring 2007: select numbers of 4-H groups will be asked to trial test and give feedback on the activities.
- Fall 2007: stage two-to-three trial community events during which the evaluation team will gather feedback. Grants of $1,000 each plus additional resources will be made available for these trial events.
