Cloverbuds Resource
A few years ago, the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), in partnership with Extension staff and credit union educators, developed Thrive by Five™. Teaching Your Preschooler About Spending and Saving--free activities and other resources for parents who want to encourage healthy attitudes about money in young children. Thrive by Five is a set of eight activities (available in both English and Spanish) for parents of preschoolers to begin teaching basic concepts of financial education. These activities, along with informational tips for working with this age group and concepts five-year-olds should know prior to entering into kindergarten, are available at http://www.creditunion.coop/thriveby5/. CUNA is inviting Extension offices to place a link for Thrive by Five on their state and local websites. The following website includes a logo and text for the Thrive by Five materials http://www.creditunion.coop/thriveby5/create_a_link.html. These materials may be used at no charge for educational, non-commercial purposes only.

4-H Promotion Opportunity
We have been contacted by Competitive Edge TV with a great 4-H marketing opportunity. They are looking for several five- to 10-minute youth-related television spots to air on their network. The program will air for 13 weeks on Monday nights, beginning Dec. 11, at 7:00 p.m. The program will be seen exclusively on KWHD TV 53, Comcast Cable 53, DTV 46 in Denver, KWHS TV 51 and Comcast Cable 6 in Colorado Springs, and Dish Network. These stations have basically family-based programming.
They would like to spotlight either individual 4-H members or groups of 4-H members doing innovative projects and/or community service projects that would be of interest to other youth their age. A team of six teenage reporters actually develop and report the stories on the show.
For more information or to submit story ideas go to their website at: http://www.competitiveedgetv.com/.
You can also contact Rana Tolman at 720.939.6112 for more details.
Please keep us informed if you plan to submit any story ideas by contacting Ellen Butler at 970.491.1152 or ellen.butler@colostate.edu. — Jeff Goodwin
Catch-A-Calf
National Western Stock Show time is fast approaching, and with that, it is time to encourage youth to apply for the Catch-A-Calf program sponsored by the National Western Stock Show.
The National Western Stock Show Catch-A-Calf Program is a great program designed to promote youth development and understanding of the cattle feeding industry. This program can provide youth with an opportunity to be part of one of the best programs at the National Western Stock Show. Youth are encouraged to manage their projects from the mindset of commercial cattle feeding.
Applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 18 as of Dec. 31, 2006 to apply, and also enrolled in 4-H at the time of application. Successful catchers must have adequate facilities available to house their steer as they are responsible for the care, feeding, and handling of their animal.
Applications are due to my office postmarked no later than Dec. 1, 2006. Applications are posted on http://livestock.colostate.edu/youth. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at 970.491.1427 or brett.kaysen@colostate.edu if you have any questions regarding the program. — Brett Kaysen
