Blue Ribbon Reminder
Can you believe it's that time of year again! Your Blue Ribbon Youth Enrollment ES237 & Youth Data is due by Monday, Oct. 2, 2006 (or earlier if you wish!). All enrollment drops and project completions need to be completed before sending your final report to the state office. If your county fair is held later in September or early October, please contact me ASAP and I'll be happy to give you an extension. My final report is due to the National 4-H office on Nov. 1, no later!
I also want to let you know that we are not certain when the 06-07 Project and Literature codes update will be, but I will keep you informed. We will be looking for a few volunteers to check over the codes before they are released, so if you are interested in helping out please contact Gail at gail.mckee@colostate.edu. Thanks!
I have posted several documents to the standard Youth Enrollment web site which I refer to often in this e-mail. (http://www.ext.colostate.edu/ye)
1) BACKUP your Youth files BEFORE YOU begin this process!!! (http://www.ext.colostate.edu/ye/help/backup_youth.pdf)
2) Did you enter all of your Group Youth Enrollments, Volunteer and Leader information? These are to capture youth that are NOT enrolled in the Blue Ribbon database. Remember, under Group Youth Enrollment there is a $1/person fee for each youth under the Special Interest category.
3) For a complete step-by-step ES237 process go to: http://www.ext.colostate.edu/ye.
Click on "ES237 in a Nutshell" and print these instructions.
4) Whether you e-mail or use regular mail, EVERYONE will need to fill out and sign the following form - http://www.ext.colostate.edu/ye/forms/enrollverification.doc
****PLEASE DO NOT SEND CHECKS WITH THIS FORM - PLEASE WAIT UNTIL ACCOUNTING SENDS YOU AN INVOICE, IF NEEDED. Your account should be up to date, but any final billing will be from the CE accounting office ONLY****
I use the following methods to determine the numbers that are provided to our accounting department for billing purposes. For Enrollments -- open Blue Ribbon -- select ES237 | ES237 Verification -- check Members and Cloverbuds (this includes New, Return, and Terminated Status) -- click Preview -- when the report is done go to the last page and that is the number generated for community club enrollment, which is then multiplied by five.
Special Interest numbers are found by selecting ES237 | ES237 Statistical Report -- click "Test-Group Data" under "Testing Report" and "Member/Leader Stats" under "Report" type, click Preview, click "OK" when message appears. Let the report run and on the first page under #4, under the total column you’ll find the number used which is multiplied by one. There is no need to print either of these reports, as I will be double checking all totals upon arrival.
5) Don't forget to e-mail, mail or fax me your data and final reports!
6) There have been a few questions regarding the Enrollment Forms - they can be found at the following link: http://www.colorado4h.org/enroll/index.shtml. (Select the appropriate enrollment form by clicking on the link.)
7) Once we have received and approved your final report you will personally get an e-mail from me saying that you may continue with "Year End Processing" instructions. You will also receive an update on Project and Literature information.
And finally, I would like to make sure that everyone knows there is a new Blue Ribbon training CD called "Using Blue Ribbon Youth Enrollment CD 2." If you haven't already requested your copy please contact Jeffrey.Wood@ColoState.Edu to get your copy today. These are handy for agents to use, especially if the person handling Blue Ribbon is out of the office! Please provide your feedback using the on-line evaluation.
If you have questions, please contact either Gail or me! — Joy Bauder
Last Week to Promote National 4-H Week!
National 4-H Week begins Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006. Take advantage of the National 4-H Week promotion kit available at 4HMediaResources.org during this last week. Showcasing the four H’s – Head, Heart, Hands and Health—the kit is a quick and easy tool for you to promote 4-H in your community.

2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
One of the cornerstones of the 4-H experience is community service and Prudential would like to recognize young people for their exemplary acts of service. Counties should have recieved materials from National 4-H Council in the past several weeks announcing the awards program. The application deadline is Oct. 31, 2006 and each county can nominate one mid-level (grades 5 - 8) and one high school honoree (grades 9 - 12) for every 1000 (or portion thereof) members. Submit your local nominees to me by Nov. 7 to qualify for additional state and national awards. — Dale Leidheiser
Adult Code of Conduct
A new Adult Code of Conduct will be posted on the 4-H Web site and is attached to this week’s 4-H Update. Thanks to Gary Small for taking leadership and the Leadership and Volunteer Development Work Team for its thoughtful revisions. — Dale Leidheiser
