The International Journal of Volunteer Administration (IJOVA)

There is a new on-line volunteer development journal connecting practitioners, academicians, and consultants in greater service to the global volunteer community.

The Editorial Board of The International Journal of Volunteer Administration is pleased to announce the publication of Volume XXIV, Number 1. The International Journal of Volunteer Administration (IJOVA) is a peer-reviewed, professional publication of the Department of 4-H Youth Development and Family and Consumer Sciences at North Carolina State University. The IJOVA is a professional not-for-profit service of the Department in recognition of the critical role of professional managers of volunteers in mobilizing human resources to address serious human, community, and social needs through volunteerism.

Formerly published by the now dissolved Association for Volunteer Administration (AVA) and known previously as The Journal of Volunteer Administration, four on-line issues of Volume XXIV of The IJOVA will be published in 2006-2007.

Thanks to the generosity of IMPACT: A Fund for Change Through Volunteerism (i.e., the Volunteer IMPACT Fund, to which the UPS Foundation is a lead contributor), the four issues of Volume XXIV will be public domain, available free of charge to anyone with access to the Web.

Beginning in 2007, The IJOVA will move to a subscription only, Web-based publication. Subscription rates as of July 1, 2007 will include an individual subscription rate of $40; and prorated organizational subscriptions per member of $30 for 101-200 members, $20 for 201-500 members, $10 for 501-1500 members, and $5 for more than 1,500 members.

The current issue of The International Journal of Volunteer Administration (as well as more in-depth background information regarding the journal; editorial board, reviewers, and staff members; and manuscript submission guidelines) may be accessed at www.ijova.org. — Dale Leidheiser

Harvard Project

On September 22-23, 2005, Harvard Family Research Project (HFRP), with support from the C. S. Mott Foundation, convened the After School Evaluation Symposium, with over 100 researchers, evaluators, policymakers, and practitioners in Washington, D.C. The goal of the 2-day meeting was to bring together the perspectives of diverse stakeholders to inspire new ideas and foster stronger links between research, practice, and policy.

The newly expanded conference presentations section of their website now highlights key themes and resources from the Symposium. These resources include an executive summary with the current state and future directions for the after school field, key themes from the plenary sessions and group discussions, and audio files of the panelists’ presentations. They highlight participants’ insights about key issues facing the after school field, notably issues of access, program quality, professional development, the role of evaluation research, and systems-building efforts.

You can access the Symposium resources by clicking here.
