Permission to Display Silk Garments
In years past, garments made from silk fabric have faded due to exposure from display lighting in the 4-H Display Building at the Colorado State Fair. The damage is irreversible; therefore, the hard work and expense of producing the garments was lost. Due to this situation silk garments will no longer be displayed at the Colorado State Fair without written permission to display and acknowledgement of possible fading caused by display lighting. We are asking members to decide whether or not they want to take the chance of their garment fading while on display at the state fair. No penalties will result if they chose not to display their silk projects in the clothing section of the display building. Garments not put on display will be hung in heavy black plastic garment bags to eliminate exposure to light and potential fading until they are picked up by Extension staff and transported home.
If exhibitors would like their garment to be displayed, they must complete and sign the attached form and put it the binder with the e-record. It must accompany the garment when entered at the Colorado State Fair. If the form is not provided, the garment will not be displayed. — Connie Cecil
Exhibit Requirement Changes and Reminders
Baking Unit 21 – the exhibit has been changed from Muffins to Plain Biscuits.
Baking Unit 24 – the exhibit is a small fruit pie. I am looking into where to find 3" to 4" disposable pie tins. If you know where they can be purchased, please let me know.
Horseless Horse is now a state project and eligible to go to state fair.
Photography Best Photo Contest is a contest for those 4-H Photography Projects that are coming to state fair. The 4-H member can either have two best pictures in the notebook, with one matted, or just one that is matted and in the notebook for the contest. Be sure to let your 4-H members know which way you prefer it for your fair.
Sturdy Binders need to be used for most of the exhibits except for those projects like Global Citizenship and Photography. For these you will need three-ringed notebooks to place the e-record in. — Connie Cecil

Blaze a Trail to the 2006 Fall Forum
Prepare for an excellent training session in new project and leadership training to help volunteers work better with 4-H members! More than 30 different training offerings are being planned for Forum participants. The Forum also features tours, entertainment, a Cajun boil, and opportunities to share ideas with other volunteers. The dates are Oct. 6-8, in Brush (Morgan County). Registration materials are attached. — Dale Leidheiser
Colorado Volunteer Academy
We recently received a $2,000 grant from Monsanto to fund a Volunteer Academy in Colorado. The purpose of the Academy is to explore 4-H volunteerism and leadership and how our present organizations (the 4-H Senate and Leader’s Council) meet the needs of youth and volunteers in the state. Youth and adults will take recommendations back to the respective organizations for any actions. In addition to representatives from the Council and Senate, we’d like to have some “at large” 4-H youth, adult volunteers, and 4-H agents in attendance. This will be a small group of 15 - 20 people and funds will be used to subsidize travel, food and lodging.
If you would like to nominate someone or participate yourself, please fill out the attached form and return to Ellen Butler (125 Aylesworth Hall NW, Fort Collins, CO 80523-4050) by July 10. We’ll make selections and proceed with selecting dates and locations. — Dale Leidheiser
