Wilton Cake Decorating Fair Program

As a result of the growing interest in awards for cake decorating projects at county and state fairs, Wilton is proud to offer the Wilton Cake Decorating Fair Program. To participate, you must submit your county fair’s information to their on-line fair registration process. It is important that you complete the On-Line Fair Request Form and submit it before June 1, 2006. They will not award prizes unless a Request Form is submitted for the 2006 fair.

After the fair, you will receive an e-mail as a reminder to submit your winners. You will then need to complete the Online Winner’s Submission form in order for the winners to receive their prizes. Winners will receive a choice of one of the following Wilton Videos/DVD’s:

National Volunteer Week

Plan ahead for recognizing the outstanding contributions of your volunteers during this annual celebration, April 23-29, 2006. The U.S. Department of Labor has just updated their value of volunteer time to $18.04 per hour. With more than 12,000 4-H leaders giving an average of 128 hours of time per year, their time is valued at over $27.7 million! — Dale Leidheiser

2007 Western Regional 4-H Forum

It’s time to think ahead to Jan. 11-15, 2007 and submit a workshop application for the next WRLF that will be held in Phoenix, AZ! This forum will emphasize Youth & Adult Partnerships in all its workshops. The call for Workshop Proposals is due by April 30. For details and a downloadable proposal form go to: http://cals.arizona.edu/4-h/wr_forum/proposals.pdf

Early bird registration will begin Aug. 1, 2006 and space will be limited to 400 participants. — Dale Leidheiser

4-H Youth Favorite Places

Youth Favorite Places (YFP) is a 4-H activity designed to help teach youth about Geographic Information Systems/Global Positioning System (GIS/GPS), as well as to provide a service to their community.

A favorite place is someplace special, a place you can only find in your community. It is a place, not an event. It may be a favorite place for children ages 5-7, or youth ages 15-17, or for everyone ages 5 through 17. It is a public place; a place anyone can go to (although there may be age or size restrictions, limits on the time it is open, limits on what you can do there, or a fee charged to enter). It is a place of natural resources, cultural or recreational interest. Then, when 4-H families are traveling on a vacation they can look up these places to see where young people like to go. There are no locations currently entered in Colorado - it’s a book waiting to be written!

To find out how to enter your favorite places go to: http://www.youthfavoriteplaces.org/

Welcome to the World of 4-H DVD

Enclosed is a copy of the 4-H orientation DVD for your county from the Leadership and Volunteer Development Work Team. A few years ago you received a copy of a video tape; however, we thought that the DVD might be a more usable format for many of you. This DVD can be checked out by new volunteers or used in group training sessions to help new or potential volunteers understand the goals of 4-H, how to start a club, and other fundamental concepts.

You may order additional copies any of these four ways:

  • Mail your order to: Publication Orders, Extension & Station Communications, Oregon State University, 422 Kerr Administration, Corvallis, Oregon 97331-2119
  • Fax your order to 541.737.0817
  • Send your order via e-mail to: puborders@oregonstate.edu
  • Call 541.737.2513 from 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. (PST) any business day
