Citizenship-Washington Focus
Attached to this newsletter is registration information for the 2006 Citizenship-Washington Focus trip that is scheduled for

National 4-H Photography Contest
National 4-H Council needs winning photos from your state and county fairs to create the 2008 4-H Calendar. Thirteen photographs will be selected. These original photographs will be gallery mounted and framed, and a brass plate engraved with the title and photographer's name will be attached. The winning photos will be on display at the National 4-H Conference Center from September 2006 through November 2006 and also posted on their web site at
www.4-hmall.org.
VERY IMPORTANT-
Submissions will only be considered if they meet these criteria:
1. Full NAME and AGE of person submitting photograph.
2. Affiliation with 4-H.
3. Complete return address (for UPS delivery and USPS 1st Class Mail).
4. Telephone number.
5. List of awards that submitted photographs have received (county, state, 4-H or other). If it has not received some prior award or recognition, it will not be considered.
6. The photographer's thoughts about the photograph, in 25 words or less (include title of photograph).
7. Photo submissions should be 8" x 10", in color, and in a horizontal format. Vertical shots will be accepted only if they can be cropped to fit the horizontal format of the calendar. If selected, hard copies of digital photos are required. Black and white photos will not be considered for this full color calendar.
8. Please do not submit photos printed on a home printer, color copies, or low resolution digital prints. Have the print developed at a photo processing store.
9. E-mail Address (if applicable).
They will return all submissions, if not selected, by late August 2006. Winning photographs will be returned no sooner than Dec. 10, 2006. After final selection winners will be notified and both the photographer and parent/guardian must sign a release to use the photo in the 2008 4-H Calendar. They will also request a second photo to display at the National 4-H Conference Center.

2006 Western National Roundup
As most of you know, the 2006 Western National Roundup was held this month in Denver. Colorado did very well in their competitions; below are the teams that participated in contests.
Will Clark, Mindy McAllister, Danny Stewart, and Johnny Stewart from Pueblo County represented Colorado in the Consumer Decision Making contest. The team was coached by Lois Illick.
The Livestock Judging team from Larimer County placed 3rd High Team Overall. Team members include: Derrick Brown, Kendra Brown, Aaron Davis, and Austin Hodgson. The team is coached by Judi Blum.
In the Meats Judging Contest, Douglas County was 2nd High Team Overall. Team members include: Tayelor Blanchard, Jessica Green, Kelly Hutton, and Katie McCullough. Kelly Hutton was the high individual overall. The team was coached by Terra Thorpe. — Ellen Butler
Colorado Sweeps the 2006 Horse Classic!
The Boulder County Horse Judging team placed first for High Team Overall. Members include Anna Kraft, Rachel Kraft, Jennie Lamb, and Shawna Strickland. Their team is coached by Jody Zeier. High Individuals Overall in the Horse Judging contest are Jennie Lamb (1st), Anna Kraft (3rd), Rachel Kraft (5th), and Shawna Strickland (8th).
In Hippology, El Paso County team members won Champion Team Overall. Members are Holly Mitten, Erica Shada, Nicole Shada, and Brittany Wilkinson. The team is coached by Ellen Polyard.
The El Paso County Horse Bowl team, coached by Pam Rokes, placed 2nd. Team members include: Valencia Ortega, Jillian Polyard, Janelle Rokes, and Haley Wilkinson. Janelle Rokes placed 2nd in Individual Scoring.
In the demonstration contest, Anna Jameson and Randi Jameson, El Paso County, placed 4th in team contest. Meghan Wooldridge, from Larimer County was a finalist in the Horse Public Speaking Contest.
As a result of these winnings the 2006 Horse Classic State High Point Overall went to Colorado!
