Thanks! — Melissa Oliver The Prudential Spirit of Community AwardsThe Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honoring middle and high school students for volunteer service in their communities is kicking off the 11th year of their awards program. As in past years, they will be soliciting applications from young Coloradans in grades 5-12 through middle level and high schools, as well as through Girl Scout councils, county 4-H organizations, American Red Cross chapters, YMCA's, and Volunteer Centers. Colorado's top middle level and high school youth volunteers for 2006 will be announced in early February and brought to Washington, D.C. next May for four days of special recognition events, along with the top two applicants from every other state. In addition, all of the program's local honorees who qualify this year will receive the President's Volunteer Service Award. The application deadline is Oct. 31, 2005. For more detailed information go to www.prudential.com/spirit. — Ellen Butler Catch-A-Calf ApplicationsThe 2006 National Western Stock Show time is fast approaching, and with that, it is time to encourage youth to apply for the Catch-A-Calf program sponsored by the National Western Stock Show. All calves caught in 2006 will be shown at the 2007 National Western Stock Show. The National Western Stock Show Catch-A-Calf Program is a great program designed to promote youth development and understanding of the cattle feeding industry. This program can provide youth with an opportunity to be part of one of the best programs at the National Western Stock Show. Youth are encouraged to manage their projects from the mindset of commercial cattle feeding. Additionally, numerous learning opportunities are available to assist the youth with the project, including summer camps and software programs. Applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 18 as of Dec. 31, 2005 to apply, and also enrolled in 4-H at the time of application. Successful catchers must have adequate facilities available to house their steer as they are responsible for the care, feeding, and handling of their animal. Applications are due to my office postmarked no later than Nov. 15, 2005. Please note that this deadline is earlier than in past years. An application is attached for your convenience and is also available on my website at livestock.colostate.edu/youth. If you have any questions regarding the program, please don't hesitate to contact me at 970.491.1427 or Brett.Kaysen@Colostate.Edu. — Brett Kaysen Collegiate 4-H Scholarship Information - New DeadlineThe Colorado State University Collegiate 4-H Scholarship is due Jan. 6, 2006 in the State 4-H office.
