Statewide Level Rater Training Opportunities Available

The Colorado 4-H horse program needs knowledgeable horse owners, riders, trainers and 4-H leaders to step up and help out with the Levels Riding Program all across the state. All you need is a strong working knowledge of equitation, horse's gaits (diagonals, leads, lead changes, etc.) and a desire to help out kids in your area. The Riding Levels Program is meant to be a testing ground and not all youth will pass on the first try. By becoming trained, you will know the philosophy behind the program, when and how to pass or dismiss a rider, and how to assist them in reaching attainable goals through riding and training their horse. You will also be taken through each of the riding test steps and shown what it looks like when a rider performs a maneuver correctly versus incorrectly. Once training is successfully completed, you will be put on a list that Extension agents can use when hiring raters in their area. Raters typically receive $15/test in compensation. Listed below are the dates for these training opportunities. —Alexa Lamm
