South Central District RetreatThe "Old" South Central District is holding their retreat for 4-H members 13-18 years of age at Frontier Ranch in Buena Vista, March 18-20. Other counties are welcome to send 4-Her's that meet those age requirements. The cost of the retreat is $115 and covers two (2) nights lodging, two (2) breakfasts, one (1) lunch, a dance and workshops. Registration is due March 4 to Eleanor West, Rio Grande County Extension Office, 865 Oak Street, Del Norte, CO 81132. Please make your check payable to South Central District 4-H. Members and leaders of 4-H are encouraged to provide the workshops for the retreat. Workshop proposals are due Feb. 25, to Linda Yoder, P.O. Box 68, Hugo, CO 80823. Officers for the district will only be elected from counties who have participated in the camp for at least three consecutive years. Thank you! - Ellen Butler 2007 National 4-H CalendarNational 4-H Supply Service wants to know how you think 4-H benefits America, and your story could be used in the 2007 National 4-H Calendar. Sending in a submission may even get you a free gift certificate toward your next purchase of merchandise from the 4-H Source Book! The 2007 calendar theme is "How 4-H Benefits America." It will be up to 4-H members, volunteers, parents, staff and partners to furnish the stories that will be featured. These personal testaments must tell the what, when, where, why, and how; so everyone can understand how 4-H benefits America. One story for each month will be featured in the calendar and the author will receive one $10 gift certificate toward a future purchase in the 4-H Source Book. Thank you! - Ellen Butler 2005 Western 4-H RoundupAs most of your know, the 2005 Western 4-H Roundup was held last week in Denver. Colorado did very well in their competitions; here are some of the results: The Consumer Decision Making team from Adams County placed 5th in their contest. Team members include: Bridgett Buzek, Hannah Gallo, Ashley Kelley, and Katherine Mulligan. Lulu Marie Hatheway is coach of the Adams County team. Bridgett Buzek placed first as Overall Individual. The Livestock Judging team from Rio Blanco County placed 4th for High Team Overall. Team members include: Dustin Allen, Nick Moody, Emma Vaughn, and Kyle Vaughn. The team is coached by Clint Shults and Landon Smith. In the Meats Judging Contest, Adams County was 10th High Team Overall. Team members include: Ashley Brand, Sarah Mansfield, Jeff Sterkel, and Stephan Vice. The team is coached by Ben Cooley. Colorado sweeps the 2005 Horse Classic!The El Paso County Horse Bowl team, coached by Pam Rokes, placed first. Team members include: Jessica Daniel, Holly Mitten, Erica Shada, Nicole Shada, and Brittany Wilkison. Holly Mitten placed first in Individual Scoring. The Weld County Horse Judging team placed first for High Team Overall. Members include Megan Grieve, Amber Hammerbeck, Jessica Johnson, and Abby Sponaugle. Their team is coached by Lianna Schulz. High Individuals Overall in the Horse Judging contest are Abby Sponaugle (3rd), Amber Hammerbeck (5th), and Megan Grieve (7th). In Hippology, Boulder County team members won Champion Team Overall. Members are Rachael Hassa, Alissa Neitenbach, Marian Neitenbach, and Shawna Strickland. The team is coached by Donna Pattee. Shawna Strickland placed as High Individual. Tiffany Mead, El Paso County, placed 4th in Individual Horse Demonstration. And, as a result of these winnings the 2005 Horse Classic State High Point Overall went to Colorado! Congratulations to all of our participants for doing a fantastic job of representing Colorado! - Ellen Butler Colorado 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator NamedIn December 2004, Jim Hamilton of Trinidad was named as the 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator for Colorado. Jim has been a member of the State Shooting Sports Team for many years and has a firm grasp on the workings of a 4-H Shooting Sports program at the state and national level. Jim will have the primary responsibility of conducting the statewide 4-H shooting sports workshops. He will also provide leadership for the State Shoot and Shooting Sports Family Campout.
