Opportunity for Freshman 4-H'ers Attending CSU

Please encourage your 4-H'ers who will be attending CSU as freshman next fall to apply to be a 4-H Scholar. The 4-H Scholars promote the positive experiences they had in 4-H and spend up to 20 hours a month representing 4-H at key activities, speaking at public events, and meeting with stakeholders and donors. For their efforts, each Scholar receives training, public relations support materials, reimbursement for expenses, and a $1,500 annual stipend toward college expenses.

Look for more information on how to apply next fall.

Army, 4-H Join Forces to Support Youth

A joint Army/4-H initiative will provide support, recreational, social and educational programs to youth in Colorado whose parents are suddenly deployed to Iraq and elsewhere due to the Global War on Terrorism.

Operation: Military Kids (OMK) is an Army/4-H initiative to support military families right in our own backyard. When National Guard, Army Reserve and other military parents living in civilian communities are mobilized, their children suddenly have different needs. Now they are "military kids" but they still "look the same" to teachers, friends and the rest of the community. However, their lives have been turned upside down!

More information to follow in 4-H Update next week.

Volunteer Opportunity at Champ Camp

Jennah Montag, one of our former State 4-H Senate officers contacted us about an opportunity to volunteer at a camp for children with asthma. If you know of someone over the age of 18 who might be interested, they need twenty cabin counselors.

This year, Champ Camp will be held July 10-17 at Glacier View Ranch in Ward, Colo. Registration is open to children ages 7-14 with moderate to severe asthma. The theme for camp this summer is "discovery." Campers will discover new things about themselves, as well as new ways to manage their asthma and feel in control of their condition.

Each year, more than one hundred volunteers, including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, behavioral specialists and others work hard to ensure that Champ Camp is safe, fun and educational. More volunteers are needed this year. For more information or to volunteer, contact Jennah Montag at 1.800.LUNG.USA or e-mail jmontag@alacolo.org. Visit their Web site at www.alacolo.org.
